Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations.

WHO WE ARE

  • ABOUT US

My name is Carmela Kuper, and on July 11, 2024, I faced the most devastating moment of my life: I had to tell my two beautiful daughters that their father had taken his own life. After years of battling depression and alcoholism, he succumbed to these painful and relentless diseases. His absence has left an immeasurable void, and our lives have been changed forever.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned through this heartbreak, it’s how vital it is to truly reach out to those around us. Check in on your loved ones. Encourage them. Support them. Speak life into everyone you meet—you never know what silent battles they may be fighting. Even though we did all of this, mental illness can still overwhelm. Those who suffer need constant reminders that they are not alone, and that they are loved.

But even in the darkest moments, know this: God is in the business of healing. He is the Great Physician, the Great Healer. He can take even the most tragic circumstances and use them to bring hope, restoration, and new life. He truly brings beauty from ashes.

Over 30 years ago, a friend gave me a gift—a Bible. As he handed it to me, he said that God had specifically led him to choose this one for me. It was the Life Recovery Bible. At the time, I had never struggled with addiction myself and didn’t fully understand why this particular Bible was meant for me. But God did. He knew the road ahead. And in His grace, He provided the perfect tool to carry me through the storms to come—His living Word, filled with promises of strength and hope for every moment of every day.

Since our family’s first experience with rehabilitation, I’ve felt a strong calling to create a ministry—Recover with Me—dedicated to gifting Life Recovery Bibles and sharing the hope they carry with individuals in treatment programs, and with anyone wrestling with addiction, pain, or brokenness. This nonprofit will provide not only Bibles but also mental health resources, encouragement, and practical support for those working to rebuild their lives.

Recover with Me is excited to announce that Elio Scaccio has joined the organization as President. Elio brings with him an extensive background of nonprofit leadership and business development experience, along with a deep personal passion for helping those in need. He has spent decades building connections across diverse industries, leading teams, growing organizations, and championing community initiatives. Importantly, Elio has been personally touched by stories of recovery, giving him a profound understanding of the challenges faced by those we serve. His vision, expertise, and compassion for people will help us expand our reach and impact, and ensure that every person we serve knows they are loved, valued, and never alone.

If you’ve walked this road with a loved one—or if you simply feel called to help others—you’re invited to partner with us. All donations go directly toward equipping individuals in treatment facilities with the tools they need to begin again.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
